I recently took this image at Ocean Beach on a very sunny day. The very top of the dog's head got totally blown out (no detail)...but I LOVED the image. So I decided to embrace the issue and see what I could do. I applied a painterly filter, intentionally blew out even more of the detail on the head, toned down the white some and then added a vignette. I keep staring at the image...I like it...but is it any good? I asked for feed back and got this from a fellow photographer, "Art is about love and not about technical rules. I HATE rules!!" Thank you for that reminder. : )
I've always had an idea in my head about where I wanted to go with my photography...but it was never so clear that I really understood...until recently. I've been experimenting with using painterly filters on my images...and I'm loving what's happening. The light blub has been turned on and I can't work fast enough. I'm going back to images that I really liked...and creating something that I love. I hope you agree.
